Gateway Alcohol & Drug Treatment has a 40-year track-record of success in assisting people to overcome substance abuse.
Each Gateway center is licensed by the state of Illinois and accredited by The Joint Commission, the leading accrediting organization for hospitals and other healthcare organizations.
At Gateway, the first step is undergoing a confidential consultation to assess the nature and extent of the alcohol or drug problem.
The individualized assessment allows our staff to customize the best possible drug rehab and alcohol treatment approach within our After-Work / After-School Outpatient Treatment and Residential Treatment Programs.
The duration of drug rehab and alcoholism treatment is dependent on the extent of a person's substance abuse problem and dedication to recovery.
Gateway is an affordable option when compared to other treatment providers.
The cost of treatment depends on the type and length of treatment an individual receives.
After an initial screening we can determine the type of treatment plan you or your loved one may need, the costs involved, and options for payment. Gateway treatment programs are more accessible financially, so that quality, affordable treatment is available to everyone.
Your insurance co-pay and deductibles go further at Gateway Treatment Centers.
Gateway accepts self-pay and also provides treatment to individuals who may be eligible for services funded in whole, or in part, by the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Please contact Gateway to determine eligibility. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, cash and personal checks.
Substance abuse treatment payment options.

Tips on Choosing a Free Rehab Center in Springfield, IL

  • Make sure the center is accredited. Accreditation means that the center has met certain standards of quality and patient care. You can find accredited rehab centers by visiting the websites of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) or The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Check the center's track record. How long has the center been in operation? What is its success rate? You can find this information by reading online reviews or by contacting the center directly.
  • Consider the center's treatment approach. Does the center offer a variety of treatment modalities, or does it focus on one approach? What is the center's philosophy on addiction treatment?
  • Find out what the center's aftercare program is like. Aftercare is essential to long-term recovery. Make sure the center you choose offers a comprehensive aftercare program.
  • Make sure the center is a good fit for you. Consider your individual needs and preferences when choosing a rehab center. For example, if you have a co-occurring mental health disorder, you'll need to find a center that offers dual diagnosis treatment.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Ask about the center's admission process. What documentation do you need to provide? Is there a waiting list?
  • Find out what the center's policies are on insurance and financial assistance. Will the center accept your insurance? Does the center offer financial assistance to patients who need it?
  • Visit the center in person, if possible. This will give you a chance to meet the staff, see the facilities, and get a feel for the center's atmosphere.
  • Talk to people who have been to the center. Ask them about their experiences and whether they would recommend the center to others.
Choosing a rehab center is an important decision. By following these tips, you can find a free rehab center in Springfield, IL that is right for you.

Free Rehab Centers in Nearby Cities

Since many of our rehab centers are sliding scale, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the Gateway Foundation website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care based on your income from the sliding fee scale.

Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2023

Persons In Family Household Poverty Guideline Salary per year
1 $14,580
2 $19,720
3 $24,860
4 $30,000
5 $35,140
6 $40,280
7 $45,420
8 $50,560

For Households with more than 8 persons, add $4,480 for each additional person.
*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free treatment from some substance abuse centers, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
