The Freedom Center has served Knox County residents in addressing their substance use and addiction challenges for over 30 years. They are an outpatient counseling and community prevention organization that values quality of service, individual respect and confidentiality and an efficient use of community resources to support their clients in developing healthy and sustainable lifestyles. The Mission of the Freedom Center To promote the growth and wellness of Knox County residents by providing prevention services and delivering accessible, respectful, evidenced-based treatment for individuals and families battling substance abuse and dependency.

Since many of our rehab centers are sliding scale, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center of Knox County website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care based on your income from the sliding fee scale.

Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2022

For Households with more than 8 persons, add $4,480 for each additional person.
*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free treatment from some substance abuse centers, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.

Sliding Scale Treatment Fees that are variable based on the clients ability to pay. Fees are reduced for lower income persons or have less money due to high expenses.

Non Profit Treatment Many non profit treatment programs are free or are lower cost due to the non profit organizations status.

Faith Based Treatment Many religious organizations offer drug and alcohol recovery treatment at no cost as part of their ministry services. Many also offer payment assistance for those that qualify.
