About Area Substance Abuse Council

ASAC provides services to persons working toward recovery from alcohol or drug abuse through the Access to Recovery program.

To participate in the program, clients must meet to the following program eligibility requirements: be a current Iowa resident, be diagnosed with a substance abuse problem, be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

Examples of services provided at ATR include family education and therapy, housing assistance, individual therapy, child care, sober living activities and more.

I want to seek help because I have never given myself a good chance, I’ve always been using a substance and not being able to quit pot cold turkey when getting recommended to do the outpatient treatment. I definitely lied in my evaluation I had done because I wanted to take the easy way out but it’s time:

*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free treatment from some substance abuse centers, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.

Sliding Scale Treatment Fees that are variable based on the clients ability to pay. Fees are reduced for lower income persons or have less money due to high expenses.

Non-Profit Treatment Many non profit treatment programs are free or are lower cost due to the non profit organizations status.

Faith-Based Treatment Many religious organizations offer drug and alcohol recovery treatment at no cost as part of their ministry services. Many also offer payment assistance for those that qualify.

Medicaid Payment Assistance Medicaid often covers payment for alcohol and drug treatment. Medicaid coverage do differ by State. We provide recovery centers and programs that do accept Medicaid as payment for treatment.

Payment Assistance Payment assistance is available at a large group of treatment centers. We list this detail in the description. Payment assistance programs are often structured due to the situation. You will need to call the location to find out specific details on payment assistance programs.
